A linear holo is one that sort of shows lines of rainbow colors. It really shows up on Scangie's pic of 2nite. Scatter holos are more like the Milani I linked to (badly) above. It's more of an all-over rainbow sparkle. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the polish companies say it's harder to do linear holos that are 3 or 4Free.
